Basketball Recap: Benjamin Makelela Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Army-Navy

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Glendora, Capistrano Valley Christian was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They walked away with a 50-42 win over the Army-Navy Warriors. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered an 80-71 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Capistrano Valley Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Benjamin Makelela led the charge by putting up six points in addition to 24 boards and six blocks. That's the most blocks Makelela has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Ahern, who went 7 for 15 on his way to 18 points.

Capistrano Valley Christian is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points per game. As for Army-Navy, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Coincidentally, Capistrano Valley Christian and Army-Navy will both be playing Troy the next time they take the court. Army-Navy will head out to face Troy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Capistrano Valley Christian will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
