Baseball Recap: Bishop Brossart Beats Bracken County for Their Third Straight Victory

Bishop Brossart entered their tilt with Bracken County on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Polar Bears. While the Mustangs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Ben Volmer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Alex Noe tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Luke Neltner and Isaac Amin did most of the damage at the plate: Neltner scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Amin scored two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, Amin posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Luke Bertsch was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Bishop Brossart's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Bracken County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Coming up, Bishop Brossart will challenge Holmes at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.57 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Bracken County, they will face off against Bishop Brossart at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
