Softball Recap: Cochranton Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Cochranton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Grove City Eagles, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cardinals have posted since April 10, 2024.

Jaidin Frayer spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on 12 hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mara Schwartz, who fired off two home runs while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Claudia Lippert also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Schwartz wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Cochranton lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory (which was Cochranton's third in a row) raised their record to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Grove City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Cochranton Cardinals duke it out with Seneca Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Grove City, they will take on Mercyhurst Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
