Football Recap: Havelock Skates Past Richlands with Ease

Havelock won the last time they faced Richlands and things went their way on Friday too. The Rams blew past the Wildcats 49-20. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Wildcats are ranked 219th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Havelock's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayden Howard led the charge by rushing for 122 yards and one TD on only 11 carries. Those 122 rushing yards gave Howard a new career-high. Lloyd Jones was in the mix too, providing Havelock with two touchdowns.

Havelock's run defense was locked in: Richlands could only muster 1.4 yards per carry. The team can thank DaQuarius Dunlap for the heroic effort on defense: he. Havelock didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.9.

Havelock didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Michael Gatling.

Dwight Hooker and CJ DiBenedetto certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Hooker picked up 73 receiving yards and a pair of scores, while DiBenedetto threw for 117 yards and two TDs.

Havelock's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Richlands, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-4.

Havelock didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 14-7 defeat against Croatan on the 26th. As for Richlands, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 43-3 loss against Northside - Jacksonville on the 26th.
