Volleyball Game Preview: Becker Bulldogs vs. Watertown-Mayer Royals

The Becker Bulldogs will venture away from home to square off against the Watertown-Mayer Royals at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Becker will be strutting in after a victory while Watertown-Mayer will be coming in after a defeat.

Becker not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since September 18th (when they won 3-0). Everything went their way against Apollo as they made off with a 3-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Becker took every set by at least 13 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-9, 25-5.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Becker to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kenna Hennessey, who had 12 digs and seven aces. Hennessey has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last 15 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaiden Messick, who had 14 assists and three aces.

They weren't the only good servers: Becker was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 17 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Watertown-Mayer unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-match winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of New London-Spicer by a score of 3-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Watertown-Mayer now has a losing record of 10-11. As for Becker, their win bumped their record up to 8-14.

Becker might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Watertown-Mayer in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
