Preview: Salisbury Dragons vs. Greenwood Mennonite Flames
Salisbury has been on the road for five straight, but on Monday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Greenwood Mennonite Flames at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Salisbury comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Salisbury suffered their biggest defeat since December 1, 2023 last Thursday. They were beaten by Sts. Peter & Paul 49-14. Salisbury was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-5.
They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Abby Willis and
Allie Collins, who each put up five points.
Libby Donoway held things down on the boards with seven rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with an assist.
Meanwhile, Greenwood Mennonite put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They blew past Concord Christian Academy, posting a 65-12 victory on the road. Greenwood Mennonite's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Greenwood Mennonite had a senior duo take command as Faith Troyer almost dropped a triple-double on 17 points, 11 rebounds, and nine steals and Laci Mast scored 20 points along with six steals. Mast is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Smoker, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Salisbury bumped their record down to 0-11 with that loss, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 16.3 points per game. As for Greenwood Mennonite, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
Monday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Salisbury have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Greenwood Mennonite, though, as they've been averaging only 37.1 rebounds per game. Given Salisbury's sizeable advantage in that area, Greenwood Mennonite will need to find a way to close that gap.
Salisbury came up short against Greenwood Mennonite in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 46-37. Will Salisbury have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
