Baseball Recap: Colfax Vikings vs. Glenwood City Hilltoppers
Colfax extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-7. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Glenwood City Hilltoppers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hilltoppers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-3 on April 7th.
Jimmy Hobein was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Hobein was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ethan Schindler made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Chase Albricht, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
As for Glenwood City, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 3-4 record. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
On Glenwood City's side, Jacob Hager was excellent, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave Hager a new career-high. Brock Wood was another key player, going 2-for-6 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
