Softball Recap: Portsmouth West Triumphs

It's playoff time, and Portsmouth West had no trouble coming through when it counted. They had just enough and edged out the Fairfield Lions 9-8. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Senators also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2022.

Lainey Cook was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one triple the last three times she's played. Maleah Whitman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Portsmouth West is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-13 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fairfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-7.

Looking ahead, Portsmouth West will face off against Dawson-Bryant at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Senators' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. Fairfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
