Softball Game Preview: Fuqua Falcons vs. Tidewater Academy Warriors

Fuqua is a perfect 5-0 against Tidewater Academy since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Falcons will square off against the Warriors at 3:00 p.m. Fuqua is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.

Fuqua's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Wednesday. Everything went their way against Amelia Academy as they made off with a 15-0 victory. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Marissa Dempsey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Rebekah Call was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Kaylie Ledger was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Fuqua always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Tidewater Academy's offense. They came up short against Brunswick Academy last Thursday, falling 14-0. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Fuqua's record now sits at 8-5. As for Tidewater Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Fuqua took their victory against Tidewater Academy in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 11-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
