Preview: Windsor Warriors vs. Berlin Redcoats
The Windsor Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Berlin Redcoats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Windsor had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 55-34 margin over Manchester. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Windsor's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maxim Copeland, who picked up 241 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Copeland's longest reception was for an incredible 80 yards. John (pie) manning was in the mix as well, providing Windsor with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, everything went Berlin's way against Newington on Friday as Berlin made off with a 38-16 victory. Given Berlin's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Newington is ranked 94th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Berlin's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jon jon Morales, who rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Toby Lavender also helped out as he racked up 103 rushing yards.
Windsor pushed their record up to 7-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.5 points per game. As for Berlin, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
Everything came up roses for Windsor against Berlin in their previous meeting back in November of 2021 as the team secured a 40-11 victory. Will Windsor repeat their success, or does Berlin have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
