Softball Recap: Gill St. Bernard's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

Gill St. Bernard came into Monday's game having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 4-0 win over the Rutgers Prep Argonauts on Monday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Knights also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2017.

Julia Ward tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gill St. Bernard's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Isabella Mecca, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Mecca has posted since back in April.

The win got Gill St. Bernard's back to even at 8-8-1. As for Rutgers Prep, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-11.

Looking ahead, Gill St. Bernard's will be playing in front of their home fans against Blair Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rutgers Prep, they will venture away from home to square off against Montclair Kimberley Academy on Thursday.
