Baseball Game Preview: Lanier Voks vs. Jefferson Mustangs

Lanier is 1-9 against Jefferson since February of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Voks will host the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Lanier lost 19-10 to Highlands on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Jefferson never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over Sam Houston. Considering the Mustangs have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Victor Carrillo-Sanchez tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Jefferson got a massive performance out of Dylan Caffey, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Urdiales, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Jefferson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. They are 9-2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Jefferson has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-9-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Lanier, their loss dropped their record down to 1-14.
