Softball Recap: Cranston East Has No Trouble Against Mt. Hope

Cranston East hadn't done well against Mt. Hope recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Thunderbolts put the hurt on the Huskies with a sharp 15-7 victory. The result was nothing new for the Thunderbolts, who have now won nine matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Lexi Montalban made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off 12 hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nevaeh Fatorma, who went 5-for-6 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Leanna Garcia was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Cranston East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Cranston East's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Mt. Hope, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-11.

Looking ahead, Cranston East will host Hope at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mt. Hope, they are taking a road trip to face off against Burrillville at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
