Preview: West Point Green Wave vs. Holmes County Central Jaguars
West Point is 3-0 against Holmes County Central since November of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The West Point Green Wave will head out on the road to face off against the Holmes County Central Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as West Point comes in on four and Holmes County Central on 12.
With a playoff game on the line, West Point rose to the challenge on Friday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 54-8 victory over Gentry. Considering West Point has won five contests by more than 26 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, Holmes County Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Corinth on Friday, taking the game 34-21. Given Holmes County Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Corinth is ranked 138th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Holmes County Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Garrison Davis, who rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, and also threw for 128 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Jartavious Smart, who rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries.
Another reason for the win was Holmes County Central's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Terrance Hibbler Jr. was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
West Point has yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 8-3 record. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.6 points per game. As for Holmes County Central, their victory bumped their record up to 12-0.
Everything came up roses for West Point against Holmes County Central in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 55-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Point since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
