Recap: Vina Red Devils vs. Fayette County Tigers
If the Vina Red Devils were riding high off their 80-51 takedown of the Phillips Bears on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Vina took a 53-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fayette County on Friday. Vina was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Fayette County apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November.
Vina's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Layla Hester, who scored 17 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Hester hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. Khylee Brooks was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 18 rebounds.
Vina has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. As for Fayette County, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-8.
Vina will be playing at home against Brilliant at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Brilliant presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Vina in Alabama (Brilliant is ranked 116th, while Vina is ranked 247th). As for Fayette County, they will head out on the road to face off against Winfield at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Winfield comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
