Carter Stevenson leads a balanced attack to beat St. Edward's

Recap: Merritt Island Christian Cougars vs. St. Edward's Pirates

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Merritt Island Christian Cougars had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Pirates 72-70. Merritt Island Christian's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Merritt Island Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Carter Stevenson out in front who scored 16 points along with eight assists and six rebounds. Stevenson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Trey Nevad, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 23 rebounds.

Merritt Island Christian has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for St. Edward's, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-13.

Merritt Island Christian will square off against Morningside Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Merritt Island Christian will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Morningside Academy surely won't give up without a fight. St. Edward's does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
