Basketball Game Preview: Spring Creek Spartans vs. Churchill County Greenwave

Spring Creek and Churchill County are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Spring Creek Spartans will host the Churchill County Greenwave at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Spring Creek is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Murrieta Valley just ended the team's five-game winning streak two weeks ago. They fell 55-42 to the Nighthawks. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Spartans came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 41st in Nevada, while the Nighthawks are ranked 341st in California).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Rhiwan Williams, who posted 11 points along with seven boards and three steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Ashlynn Sorenson was another key player, putting up five points and 14 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Churchill County earned a 41-34 win over Elko on Friday.

Churchill County pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.3 points per game. As for Spring Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.

Spring Creek might still be hurting after the 46-25 loss they got from Churchill County in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Spring Creek avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
