Preview: Santa Fe Indians vs. La Porte Bulldogs
The Santa Fe Indians will be playing at home against the La Porte Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Santa Fe had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Manvel by a score of 67-58 on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given Santa Fe's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 777th, while Manvel is ranked 293rd).
Santa Fe got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaidan Mata out in front who scored 19 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mata has scored all season. Ryland Chambless was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for La Porte, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 69-55 loss to Friendswood on Friday. La Porte has struggled against Friendswood recently, as their contest on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Trent Callies put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 22 points along with five steals and three blocks. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Williams, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Santa Fe's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-15. As for La Porte, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-12 record this season.
