The Bluffton Tigers will face off against the Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Knights at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Bluffton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Bluffton couldn't beat West Noble on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Tigers fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 7-6. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by just one run.
Colton Arnold was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Arnold wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Griffin Morgan, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Fort Wayne Bishop Luers never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Fort Wayne North Side with a sharp 19-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won nine contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Ben Kiracofe, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kam Walters, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one triple.
Fort Wayne Bishop Luers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .583. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Fort Wayne Bishop Luers is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bluffton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-9 record this season.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bluffton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Fort Wayne Bishop Luers struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bluffton suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Fort Wayne Bishop Luers in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
