Baseball Recap: Cherokee Trail Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Cherokee Trail had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 12-10 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Mullen Mustangs a 4-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Cougars, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Cherokee Trail got a great performance from Carter Wilcox as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Wilcox has become a key player for the Cougars: the team is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Landon McWilliams, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Brody Ceyrolles was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

As for Mullen, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 13 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly four runs.

On Mullen's side, they got a good showing from Alexander Andrews, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Andrews has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Cherokee Trail will have a chance to go back-to-back against Mullen: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
