Basketball Game Preview: Cathedral Fighting Irish vs. Columbus East Olympians

The Cathedral Fighting Irish will venture away from home to face off against the Columbus East Olympians at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Cathedral is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest loss since December 3, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Carmel by a score of 42-39.

Meanwhile, Columbus East was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They came up short against Mooresville, falling 67-46. While losing is never fun, the Olympians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 324th, while the Pioneers are ranked 77th).

Columbus East's loss dropped their record down to 1-20. As for Cathedral, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-9.

Cathedral strolled past Columbus East when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a score of 40-26. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cathedral since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
