League recap: Russell Christian Academy tops Calhoun Academy to extend winning streak

MAIS A District 5 (8 Man) recap Oct. 23, 2012

Russell Christian Academy extended the longest winning streak in MAIS A District 5 (8 Man) this week by beating Calhoun Academy, 35-26. This was the team's 10th consecutive win.

Delta Academy led the league in scoring this week after putting up 54 points on North Sunflower Academy.

The Cougars' dynamic duo of Hunter Harmon and Kyle Carter proved tough for Russell Christian Academy to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Harmon threw for 115 yards and Carter had 69 yards receiving. Danny Joe Norman helped Calhoun Academy's passing attack out by catching two balls for 41 yards.

Arik Washington was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 123 yards on 17 carries as Nate Ballard's team lost to Nate Ballard's team. Teammate John Epps III added to the ground attack by rushing for 117 yards.

Russell Christian Academy's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Warriors feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Jacob Howse has thrown for 1031 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, while Ben McGraw has 11 catches for 391 yards. Washington leads the league in rushing with 1023 yards.

Norman of the the Cougars is only 83 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 99 carries Norman has accumulated 917 yard this year.
