Baseball Recap: Santa Fe Catholic Finds Playoff Glory Versus Discovery

Santa Fe Catholic had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the Discovery Spartans on Tuesday as they made off with a 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won four in a row.

Jameson McGuire was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on D.J. Flores, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Marvin Montenegro was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Santa Fe Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Discovery only posted an OBP of .118.

Santa Fe Catholic's record now sits at 20-5. As for Discovery, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season.

Santa Fe Catholic will challenge Lakeland Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight. Discovery does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
