Recap: Daviess County Panthers vs. Owensboro Red Devils
The Daviess County Panthers waltzed into their match on Friday with five straight wins but they left with six. They managed a 57-51 win over Owensboro. Winning is a bit easier when your three-point shooting is a whole 29% better than the opposition, as Daviess County's was.
Daviess County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zoey Beehn, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Hoagland, who scored 16 points.
Owensboro's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Heleina John, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Unique Carter-Swanagan was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Owensboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Daviess County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Owensboro, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Daviess County will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Union County at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Union County is on a three-game streak of home wins, Daviess County a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Owensboro, they will head out on the road to square off against Hancock County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hancock County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kentucky Rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while Owensboro is ranked 38th).
