Baseball Game Preview: Pinole Valley Spartans vs. Fairfield Falcons

The Pinole Valley Spartans will head out to square off against the Fairfield Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pinole Valley will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Pinole Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Salesian College Preparatory with a sharp 14-2 win on Friday. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Pride recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

The team relied heavily on Ivan Rojo, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Gael Castellanos also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Fairfield came up short against Rodriguez on Friday and fell 7-4.

Fairfield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Pat O'Reilly, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Pinole Valley's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-8-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fairfield, their loss dropped their record down to 16-6.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pinole Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fairfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Pinole Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Fairfield in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
