Football Game Preview: McDowell Titans vs. South Caldwell Spartans

McDowell is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Friday. They will host the South Caldwell Spartans at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in McDowell's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups.

On Friday, McDowell didn't have too much trouble with North Buncombe as they won 35-19. The victory continues a trend for the Titans in their matchups with the Black Hawks: they've now won five in a row.

McDowell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Danny Charles Brown, who threw for 369 yards and one TD while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also rushed for 32 yards and one score. Those 369 passing yards gave Charles Brown a new career-high. Another rusher making a difference was Hunter Pittman, who rushed for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Meanwhile, South Caldwell played a tough contest last Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by T.C. Roberson 40-6. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-6.

The match pitted two dominant s against one another in JP Smith and Tariq Sibert. Sibert had a great game and picked up two sacks, forced one fumble, and made seven total tackles (6.0 for loss). Meanwhile, Smith did his best for the losing side, making 14 total tackles.

McDowell's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for South Caldwell, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. McDowell has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 170.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like South Caldwell struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 181.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
