Recap: Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints vs. North Cross Raiders
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints can now relate to. They took a serious blow against North Cross on Saturday, falling 35-0. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in their matchups with North Cross: they've now lost seven in a row.
Napoleon Ellison threw for 73 yards on nine of 20 attempts. Jackson Runyon was his top target, picking up 32 receiving yards. On the ground, Caden Bradford rushed for 40 yards.
The critical scores for North Cross came from Jesiah Hines and Jaziel Hart.
The team won by holding Nansemond-Suffolk Academy to a paltry no rushing yards and no passing yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to North Cross' ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out 6.5 times before it was all said and done. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's QB won't forget Eason Zhou anytime soon given Zhou sacked him 3.5 times.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy now has a losing record at 5-6. As for North Cross, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. North Cross will be playing in front of their home fans against Blue Ridge at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Blue Ridge is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
