Basketball Recap: Jayden Velez Key Part of Team Effort in Bison Win

There's no place like home for High Point Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 58-44 victory over the Randleman Tigers on Tuesday. Given the Bison's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Tigers are ranked 257th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

High Point Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayden Velez led the charge by going 6-for-10 from beyond the arc to rack up 21 points. Josiah Hill was another key player, putting up 15 points and five assists.

High Point Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Randleman only racked up five.

When it comes to explaining why Randleman lost, don't look at Trey Burnett. Despite the final result, he posted 12 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Connor Cassidy, who scored eight points and five boards.

High Point Central is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Randleman, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-3.

Looking ahead, High Point Central will venture away from home to challenge Northeast Guilford at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bison will need to watch out since the Rams have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Randleman, they will be home for the holidays to greet Asheboro at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Comets have been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
