Basketball Game Preview: Wilson Tigers vs. Houston Mustangs

The Wilson Tigers and the Houston Mustangs will face off at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday without much rest having both just played. Wilson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54 points per game this season.

Wilson is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Desert Vista, who was ranked 18th in their home state at the time (Wilson was ranked 18th). Wilson was outmatched by Desert Vista and fell 74-42. The Tigers have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

Despite the loss, Wilson saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Logan Murray posted 21 points along with eight boards and four steals. That was a full 50% of Wilson's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Sharetta Jones was another key player, putting up five points.

Even though they lost, Wilson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 39 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Houston strolled past Jackson Day with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 56-41. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Wilson's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-3. As for Houston, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
