Football Recap: Washington School for the Deaf Starts off Right with Win over Lake Quinault

Washington School for the Deaf took care of business in their home opener on Thursday. They took down the Lake Quinault Elks 25-7. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Terriers also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2024.

Washington School for the Deaf's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nathan Yerkes led the charge by rushing for 126 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, while also picking up 37 receiving yards and one TD. Those 126 rushing yards gave Yerkes a new career-high. Michael McCullough was another key player, rushing for 83 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries.

Washington School for the Deaf didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Yerkes.

Washington School for the Deaf has already played their next matchup, a 56-13 loss against Wishkah Valley on the 18th. As for Lake Quinault, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 26-12 defeat against Mary M. Knight on the 20th.
