Basketball Recap: Therrell Panthers vs. South Atlanta Hornets

The Therrell Panthers pushed their score all the way to 56 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 64-56 to South Atlanta. Therrell has struggled against the Hornets recently, as their game on Monday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Therrell saw an underclassman step up: Andrew Taylor scored 33 points along with five assists and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Taylor has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Morion Mcwhorter, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.

South Atlanta's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Duor Duor, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Benton, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds.

Therrell has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 16 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season. As for South Atlanta, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Therrell won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. North Cobb Christian is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 66.4 points per game this season. As for South Atlanta, they will head out on the road to challenge the Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Walker knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully the Hornets like a good challenge.
