Baseball Recap: Santa Teresa Picks Up Ninth Straight Win at Home

While Santa Teresa didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Burges Mustangs on Wednesday as the Santa Teresa Desert Warriors made off with a 10-3 win. The Desert Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Josue Ramirez made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Jackson Simpson was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. Asia Acosta was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Santa Teresa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burges only posted a batting average of .269.

Santa Teresa pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.7 runs. As for Burges, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-8-2.

Looking ahead, Santa Teresa will take on Thoreau in a tournament on Thursday. Santa Teresa's pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so Thoreau's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Burges, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Jefferson at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
