Basketball Recap: Laton Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Laton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They walked away with a 52-42 win over the Wonderful College Prep Academy Lions. This was a revenge game for the Mustangs: when they faced off against the Lions on January 10th, they had to take a 47-32 defeat.

Laton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jesus Bocanegra, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. Bocanegra is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaythan Garcia, who posted 12 points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Laton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive games.

When it comes to explaining why Wonderful College Prep Academy lost, don't look at Alexis Negrete. Despite the final result, he had 15 points. Another player making a difference was Juan Negrete, who scored 12 points.

Laton's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-14. As for Wonderful College Prep Academy, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-11.

Laton will square off against Legacy Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Laton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games. As for Wonderful College Prep Academy, they will welcome Riverdale Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
