Basketball Recap: Dolores Gets the Win

Dolores hadn't done well against Ridgway recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Dolores Bears escaped with a win against the Ridgway Demons by the margin of a single free throw, 38-37. For the Bears, this counts as revenge for the 35-21 win the Demons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dolores to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emilynn Hill, who posted nine points and three steals. Hill is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Akaia Edwards, who earned four points and eight steals.

Ridgway's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ali Sauer, who had six points along with eight boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Sauer a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Miller, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 3-7. As for Ridgway, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Coincidentally, Dolores and Ridgway will both be playing Telluride the next time they take the court. Dolores will head out to face Telluride at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Ridgway will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
