West Florence has gone a perfect 3-0 against Lugoff-Elgin recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Demons at 6:00 p.m. West Florence is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
West Florence took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 6-3 win over Westwood. The victory continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Redhawks: they've now won three in a row.
Ashlyn Daisy was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Kendra Howle was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
West Florence hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Lugoff-Elgin ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Myrtle Beach, sneaking past 7-6. Winning may never get old, but the Demons sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Cassie Merriweather made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over eight innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayley Lynch, who went 1-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Haley Starcher, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Lugoff-Elgin's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-12. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for West Florence, their win bumped their record up to 16-6.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Florence hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Lugoff-Elgin struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went West Florence's way against Lugoff-Elgin in their previous meeting back in March, as West Florence made off with a 12-1 victory. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Demons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
