Basketball Game Preview: Matanzas Pirates vs. Seabreeze Sandcrabs

Matanzas and Seabreeze are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2019, but not for long. The Matanzas Pirates will take on the Seabreeze Sandcrabs at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Seabreeze took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Matanzas, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, Matanzas didn't have too much trouble with Father Lopez as they won 47-28. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.

Ruby Fogel had a dynamite game for Matanzas, putting up 26 points. Fogel is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelynn Smith, who posted eight points.

Meanwhile, Seabreeze came up short against Winter Springs on Friday and fell 42-29. While losing is never fun, the Sandcrabs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 541st, while the Bears are ranked 173rd).

Matanzas has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.8 points per game. As for Seabreeze, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Matanzas strolled past Seabreeze in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a score of 52-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for Matanzas since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
