Softball Recap: Southmont Mounties vs. Crawfordsville Athenians

Southmont put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Crawfordsville Athenians as the Southmont Mounties made off with a 15-2 win. The victory was nothing new for Southmont as they're now sitting on three straight.

Kyndale Rice was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. Rice has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances. Rice was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and a double.

In other batting news, Southmont got a massive performance out of Catie Himes, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Himes is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last three games she's played. Mallory Mason was another key contributor, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

On Crawfordsville's side, Delaney Spencer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits.

At the plate, Molly Pierce made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Sabella Moore, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Southmont has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. As for Crawfordsville, they haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-10.
