Softball Game Preview: Cotulla Cowboys vs. Lytle Pirates

Cotulla has gone 8-2 against Lytle recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Cowboys are taking a road trip to face off against the Pirates at 6:00 p.m. Cotulla is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.

Cotulla is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Hondo just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Owls by a score of 9-8.

Christlyn Munoz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and seven unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cotulla saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sareen Ramirez, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Jackeline Alba was another, earning one run and three stolen bases.

Natalia hit Lytle with a six-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pirates lost 15-5 to the Mustangs.

Evelyn Quintana made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

Lytle's defeat dropped their record down to 10-13-2. As for Cotulla, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 11-7.

Lytle's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Cotulla has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Lytle, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.2 strikeouts. Will Cotulla keep running through batters, or will the Pirates buck the trend?

Everything went Cotulla's way against Lytle in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Cotulla made off with a 9-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cowboys since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
