Basketball Recap: Wheeler Now 4-1 over Last Five Games

Wheeler won the last time they faced Hobart, and Kylie Simpson did her part to make sure it happened again. The Wheeler Bearcats came out on top against the Hobart Brickies by a score of 50-42 on Tuesday thanks in part to Simpson, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 17 points in addition to six boards and three steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in November of 2024.

Izabela Schumacher was another key player, putting up seven points and 19 rebounds. She has been hot, having posted 13 or more boards the last six times she's played.

Several Brickies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ladan Weinman, who went 5 of 12 en route to 15 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Riley Weber, who posted six points and nine boards.

Wheeler is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-15 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.2 points per game. As for Hobart, they dropped their record down to 3-17 with the defeat, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Wheeler and Hobart are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Wheeler will take on Whiting at 7:00 p.m. on February 4th. As for Hobart, they will face off against Hammond Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hammond Central will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Hobart surely won't give up without a fight.
