Football Recap: Lincoln Takes a Loss

Saturday just wasn't the day for Lincoln's offense. They had to suffer through a 42-0 loss at the hands of the Deer Valley Wolverines. The loss leaves the Mustangs still looking for their first win of the season.

Deer Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adrian Masaniai, who threw for 319 yards and four touchdowns while completing 82.4% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Masaniai a new career-high in passer rating (162.4). Anias Hightower helped Masaniai out on the ground, rushing for 46 yards and a pair of scores, while also picking up 43 receiving yards.

Lincoln's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Deer Valley, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Lincoln and Deer Valley could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Mustangs will take on El Cerrito at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (767 vs. 159). Meanwhile, Deer Valley (ranked 494th) will meet Roseville (ranked 183rd) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
