Softball Recap: Spring Mills Cardinals vs. Cheraw Braves
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Canfield, Spring Mills was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They had just enough and edged the Cheraw Braves out 8-6.
Alexis Wagner was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Wagner was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Wagner wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lindsay Jenkins, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Spring Mills' victory bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Cheraw, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.
Spring Mills will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against South Range at 10:00 a.m. South Range's pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so Spring Mills' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cheraw, they will be playing in front of their home fans against South Florence at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
