Horn Lake headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for five straight, but Hickory Flat let them put that streak behind them. Horn Lake was the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over Hickory Flat on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Jacob Bible made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Horn Lake got a big performance out of Mason Richmond, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Richmond has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Terrell, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hernando). Everything went their way against Horn Lake on Tuesday as Hernando made off with a 15-1 win. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Tigers with their most commanding win of the season.
Like Horn Lake, Hernando also got a great game from a two-way player: Landon Holmes. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Holmes also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hernando is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-6-1 otherwise. Holmes was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Josh Pe?a was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season. Cade Kozcka was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Hernando was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are undefeated (2-0) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Hernando's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Horn Lake, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
