Recap: Centralia Orphans vs. Greenville Comets
After a string of four wins, the Centralia Orphans's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell to Greenville 47-43. Centralia lost against Greenville in their previous head to head back in January of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 52-23 score last time.
Greenville had a senior duo take command as Shayna Henderson scored nine points along with nine rebounds and three steals and Katie Campbell scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and four steals. Henderson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Emma Veith was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six steals.
Centralia's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Greenville, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Centralia will be playing in front of their home fans against Salem at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Salem will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while Centralia is ranked 105th). Greenville's road trip will continue as they head out to face Effingham at 2:30 p.m. on January 20th. Effingham is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
