Softball Recap: Mercer Has No Trouble Against West Middlesex

Mercer has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging four runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. Everything went their way against the West Middlesex Big Reds as they made off with an 18-11 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won three matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Emma Stoepfel was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Bella Beers was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

Mercer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Mercer and bumps their season record up to 7-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for West Middlesex, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Coincidentally, Mercer and West Middlesex will both be playing Sharpsville the next time they take the field. The Mustangs will head out to face the Blue Devils at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Big Reds will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
