Softball Recap: Cheney Gets the Win

Cheney's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top against the Central Valley Bears by a score of 13-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). Considering the Blackhawks' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Maddy Hurley was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Hurley was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Mia Ashcroft and Millie Beito did most of the damage at the plate: Ashcroft went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Beito went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Ashcroft a new career-high. Allie Halverson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Cheney kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Cheney's victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Central Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cheney will take on Moses Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Blackhawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mavericks have averaged an impressive 10.5 runs per game this season. As for Central Valley, they will square off against Lewis & Clark at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.67 runs per game on average), something the Bears will no doubt try to take advantage of.
