Softball Recap: Highland Springs Wins Going Away Against L.C. Bird

Highland Springs made up a huge gap compared to their last game against L.C. Bird, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Highland Springs blew past L.C. Bird 16-4 on Thursday. For the Springers, this counts as revenge for the 25-13 victory the Skyhawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Elise Fleming made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, firing off four doubles, three runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-5.

In other batting news, Ashlynne Porter was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Samantha Gathright, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Highland Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Highland Springs' record is now 3-1. As for L.C. Bird, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Highland Springs and L.C. Bird will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time Highland Springs sees the field they'll take on Meadowbrook at 6:00 p.m. on April 7. As for L.C. Bird, their break will end when they face James River Midlothian at 6:00 p.m. on April 8.
