Basketball Recap: Newcastle Takes Down Harrah in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Newcastle had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They walked away with a 63-50 victory over the Harrah Panthers. Given the Racers' advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Panthers are ranked 84th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Kalani Kindred, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 16 points and four steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Whitney Wollenberg was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Harrah's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sayler Eaton, who went 5-for-11 on her way to 13 points. Another player making a difference was Paislee Carter, who posted eight points and three steals.

Newcastle has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season. Harrah's loss dropped their record down to 21-6.

Newcastle wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 51-36 defeat against Lincoln Christian on the 7th. As for Harrah, they have also already played their next matchup, a 49-40 loss against Holland Hall on the 6th.
