Basketball Recap: Merrill Takes a Loss

Merrill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by the Marshfield Tigers and fell 78-25. The Bluejays lost against the Tigers in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 64-44 score last time.

It was another big night for Zaida Kolbeck, who went 8 for 13 on her way to 19 points for Marshfield. Kolbeck is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hailey Klumb, who went 5 of 11 en route to 11 points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Merrill's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Marshfield, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-8.

Merrill has already played their next matchup (against Antigo), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Marshfield Tigers take on the Chippewa Falls Cardinals at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.
