Softball Recap: Skyview Beats Bishop Kelly for Their Third Straight Victory

Skyview took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Bishop Kelly, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Knights on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Hawks: when they faced off against the Knights last Thursday, they had to take a 10-4 defeat.

Makenna Shamy spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Makayla Lytle, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Ella McMullen was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

The victory (which was Skyview's third in a row) raised their record to 9-13. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Kelly, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Skyview will welcome Emmett at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hawks are facing the Huskies at the right time seeing as the Huskies are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Bishop Kelly, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Nampa at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
