Softball Game Preview: Alta Hawks vs. Corner Canyon Chargers

Alta and Corner Canyon are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Hawks will welcome the Chargers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Alta has given up an average of 11.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

While Alta's victory against Skyline wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hawks won by a run and slipped past the Eagles 18-17. The win continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.

Alta got a massive performance out of Addyson Brownell, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Brownell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brielle Watson, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, three doubles, and three RBI.

Alta kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Corner Canyon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They lost 25-4 to Riverton.

Corner Canyon saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooklyn Hyer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Alta's victory bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Corner Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 3-22.

Corner Canyon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Alta has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Corner Canyon, though, as they've been averaging 10.8 hits. Given Alta's sizable advantage in that area, the Chargers will need to find a way to close that gap.
